Nominator's project description

Professor Weber's long list of publications in outstanding journals includes papers on the Endogenous Formation of Coalitions and on Public Economics and International Organizations. Both topics are of relevance for the enlargement of the European Union: on the one hand, coalitions will form endogenously in a union with a large number of diverse member states, which may then significantly affect (positively or negatively) the stability of the European Union. On the other hand, the internal coherence of the European Union can be strengthened by extending the possibility of linking issues, which is already a common phenomenon in international organizations. For this reason, "Theoretical aspects of the enlargement of the European Union" is the title of the joint research project of Professor Weber while visiting the Technische Universität Dresden.
